Photoshop – make brick wall behind a model

This is a simple tutorial about how to make brick wall in photoshop, please look at the photo below for before and after effects.

for this demonstration, I’m using Adobe Photoshop CS4, but the steps are quite identical between different versions of Photoshop:

Step 1, open and image in Photoshop, press CTRL+J to make a copy of background image, and name the layer “brick wall”;
Make an image copy

Step 2, go to “Filter -> Pixelate -> Mosaic…”, click and apply mosaic filter on the “brick wall” layer of the image, now you will see a pop-up window for Mosaic configuration, I’m using “145″ for the Cell Size value on this image, your image might need a different value;

Step 3, set the blend mode to “Screen”, and Fill value as “70%”;
